What is the best food to start your day off and protect your retina?
Berries!
There are studies suggesting that blueberries may be beneficial for macular degeneration. Blueberries are a rich source of antioxidants, including anthocyanins, which are believed to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties that protect the retina from damage.
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that women who ate three or more servings of fruit per day had a lower risk of developing macular degeneration, when compared with women who ate fewer fruit servings.
While further research is needed to fully understand the relationship between blueberries and macular degeneration, we know a healthy diet supports healthy vision.
